Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 Status Update

February 28th, 2008 by ekeohane

Testing continues with Microsoft’s new Vista operating system and Office 2007. Because there are too many Vista incompatibilities with our other systems, we will be staying with Windows XP for this Spring’s computer rollout.

We do hope to be able to offer Office 2007, however. Testing is proceeding well. Our test group recently expanded to include people from many departments across the campus who use Word and Excel in different ways. Stay tuned.

System Maintenance Saturday, March 1, 2008

February 28th, 2008 by ekeohane

Faculty, Staff, and Students,

I want to first apologize for the printing service interruption Tuesday. We would not have done work on a school/work day if we thought there was any substantive chance of a problem. That turned out not to be the case, unfortunately. We try our best to make these rare events.

We do have maintenance work this Saturday, as is usual for the first Saturday of the month. From 6a.m. to 10a.m. all systems that use your network username and password (which is most systems) will be unavailable.

If you have any questions, please let me know. If you experience any problems after Saturday’s work then contact the help desk at X-3548 or helpdesk@holycross.edu.

For those of you heading out for spring break, enjoy!

take care–

–Ellen.

Printing Services Restored

February 27th, 2008 by bhenry

The efforts to restore printing services are complete. Some folks have already noticed printing related messages popping up on their screens. It is advised that everyone reboot their computers; this is the most effective method to assure that the system sets its printers up properly.

If you receive a message regarding changes to your printer, select OK in the window. The computer will go through a brief configuration, and then you will need to click OK again. It will do this for each printer to which you can print.

If, after a reboot, you find that you still not print, please contact the Helpdesk (x 3548).
